DIY Sliding Window Card with Secret Shaker Element

Hello everyone! So sorry I've not posted in a few weeks! Life has been crazy busy with Easter holidays, illness and general life admin! Over the next few weeks I hope to post a lot more on my blog and upload more videos to my YouTube channel which you can find here.
For today's card I am sharing another sliding window card but this time I've added a twist!  I've added a hidden shaker element to the card plus I've created my own sliding window panel.
I started with a card panel slightly larger than A2 size blended on some twisted citron and evergreen bough distress ink.  I used the Newtons Nook Tropical Leaves stencil and blended on some more of those inks over the top to create a fun jungle theme element to my card.  To add texture I splattered on some green jewel paint (I used the Gansai Tambi Pearl Watercolor pallet) before removing the stencil.  Once the panel was completely dry I used and A2 size rectangle die to die cut the panel to size.

To start creating the sliding window panel I took a rectangle die from my stash to create a template.  Any rectangle die will do...you just need it to be smaller than A2 size and give a wide enough border to allow adhesive to run along the edges - I used  to cut a rectangle from lawn fawn.  I cut the rectangle from a piece of scrap cardstock.  This will be my template to help create my sliding window panel. On to the template I measured out some markings to help me work out where I would score and cut my card panel-I've created this diagram below to help explain.
The small rectangle at the bottom will help form part of the pull mechanism for the sliding window.  Rectangles 1 & 2 should be even in size so that the sliding window can pull up without buckling or bending.
I then placed this template centrally on to my inked up card front and used by craft knife to cut around three sides of the template.  I removed my template and then used a scoring tool to create score lines to form the pop up sliding feature (my video will probably show a better visual explanation!)
This diagram shows where to cut, and where to score.....
To cut out the notch at the top of the card panel (and the front panel of my cardbase) I used a die from MFT blueprints tag 5. Before moving on to decorating the hidden panel I flipped over the front card panel (i.e. jungle face down) and placed some double sided adhesive along the small strip at the base of the sliding window flap.  I cut a piece of cardstock slightly wider (ensure it is only slightly wider - you don't want it to get in the way when you put the card together) than the sliding window element, removed the release paper from the tape and secured the cardstock flush along the edge.  If the cardstock is too long (overhangs the top of the top edge of the card) just trim it down to size
For the hidden panel/shaker window I took the cardbase and lightly blended on some distress ink (twisted citron, evergreen bough), stamped some leaf images in co-ordinating colours (hello bluebird-jungle littles) and stamped a sentiment in Versafine onyx black ink (sentiment also from jungle littles stamp set).

I took strips of foam tape (I made custom sized strips by sticking foam tape to the release paper of label paper and then cut into strips with a craft knife).  I placed the foam tape along both sides of the cardbase, the bottom of the cardbase and then a small strip along the top but below the cut notch.
I placed sequins in the well created, removed the release paper from the foam tape and secured a piece of acetate over the top.  The acetate was cut to size, avoiding interfering with the notch at the top of the card.
More double sided adhesive was placed on top of the acetate using the foam tape as a guide for placement. The release paper removed from the tape and then the front card panel (the one with the slider flap on!) secured to the cardbase.

With the slider and shaker elements finished its time to finish the front of the card!

I cut the 'HAPPY birthday' sentiment by hello bluebird from some black card stock.  I then glued the HAPPY to the card front.  I coloured and die cut the cute little monkey from jungle littles and hooked him on to the 'birthday' element.... I used glue and some reverse tweezers to secure into place.  To secure to the card I only placed glue on the bottom half of the 'birthday' die cut to ensure it popped up when the slider mechanism is pulled as it is placed across the middle score line.

The monkey's little present is from Mama Elephant Page Huggers stamp set....it was the perfect size for the monkey!

I used copics to colour the monkey & present.  The monkey was coloured with E70's (body) and E40's (face).  The present I used some R80's.

To finish off the card I added some black glaze pen to the monkey's eyes and nose plus some white gel pen to add some highlights.  To add a little bit more sparkle I took some spring green jewels from Pretty Pink Posh and glued them to the card front using my jewel picker and some Gina K connect glue.
I hope you enjoyed this card and I hope this post helps you to make one too! I made YouTube video which I think will explain thing better, visually:
