Shake It Up! CDD Designer Creative Challenge!

It's Shaker Time!

Hi Crafty Friends!  Today I'm sharing a fun shaker with you and it features some new products from the new release too!

To begin I took two pieces of white cardstock and smooshed Victorian Velvet distress ink to use as my background on both panels.  On one of the panels I used the new Leafy Background stamp set and heat embossed this with tinsel gold embossing powder.

I used the Inside Scalloped Oval Dies to cut 8 oval frames from white cardstock and also to cut the heat embossed panel I created.  I adhered the embossed panel to the other smooshed background I created and then started layering up the frames around the edge.

Once I had glued and layered up seven of the oval frames I filled my oval well with Maple Leaves Sequins.  I glued a piece of acetate over the top of the sequins ensuring all the sides were secured down to the oval frame.  Finally I glued one last frame over the top.

I used the Favorite Nut stamp set to colour my squirrel image with copic markers and heat embossed a sentiment on to kraft cardstock with detail white embossing powder.

I think this card turned out super cute and I think these sequins are great for colour and size variation!

Hope you have a great crafty day!

Crafin Desert Divas August Release Blog Hop - Day 2!

 Hello Crafty Friends!
Today I'm excited to be sharing another card featuring stamp images from the August 2018 release. Rich coloured crisp leaves, fall friends and more make this release absolutely precious! Once you've hopped all the way along, head over to the Craftin Desert Divas shop to snag your special discount - 5% off through 8/19.

In today's card I have used the new stamp set, Dam Shame, along with the new Leafy Background stamp and I think it turned out just darling!
For this card I stamped and heat embossed the leafy background on to some Bristol Smooth Cardstock with clear embossing powder.  I used my new favourite distress inks for fall - Aged Mahogany, Victorian Velvet & Tattered Rose.

I placed a small amount of distress ink on to an acrylic block and then used my water brush to place most of the colour at the base of the leaf and pull it out to fade the colour and create a subtle gradient effect.

For the outside of the leaves I used the gold paint from my Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolor set.

The beaver image was coloured using my copic markers and I fussy cut out my image.  I then cut a circle from white cardstock using the Stitched In Circle Dies. I used some tumbled glass distress ink to create some fluffy clouds using the new Hill Scene 2 stencil.  I used blueprint sketch to gently blend on some ink to create the look of water.  I then glued all my layers together and secured to a white cardbase.

I hope you enjoyed this card and how it was created!  Next on the hop is Maaike but in case you got lost here is the full hop list:

CDD August 2018 Release Week - Sneak Peek Day #1!

Sneak Peek Day 1 - Favorite Nut

The August release is nearly here!  The Design Team have been 'squirreling' away creating some adorable designs for you and to share the amazingly cute new stamps we have coming.

For today's sneak peek I am sharing this adorable scene card using the new 'Favorite Nut' stamp set plus lots of new goodies for August (see below to find out what new products I have used!).  The acorn house is utterly adorable and I love the three squirrels that come in this stamp set (I've only used one of the squirrels on today's card).

To create this card I have used some gorgeous rich coloured distress inks and a few coppery splatters which I think pair perfectly with Fall approaching and these cute little critters.
The new products used on this card are:
Favorite Nut Stamps
Inside Scallop Oval Dies
Hill Scene 1 Stencil
Hill Scene 2 Stencil

To complement the release of this stamp set I have created a process video for the Craftin Desert Divas YouTube channel.  I hope you enjoy watching the steps I took to achieve this card - click here to see the video!

Smiles Across The Miles - Designer Creative Challenge!

Hi Everyone!
Thank you for joining me on my blog!  Today I have this super adorable card to share with you using the Gnomie stamp set!  I'm sure this card would put a smile on someone's face because those images are just the cutest!

I had these super sweet images already coloured in my stash (they were coloured with copic markers) so I pulled them out and created a cute scene for them.

I used distress inks in
* Chipped Sapphire
* Blueprint Sketch
* Shaded Lilac
to shade the sky in a gradual gradient (darker at the top, lighter toward the ground).  Once the background was dry I then used the Star Galaxy Stencil and spread some Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonstone over the top to add depth and glitz to the sky.  I left the glitter paste to dry overnight.

My grassy border was cut using the die from Outdoor Landscapes 2 from some plain white cardstock and inked up with Evergreen Bough distress ink.

Once I had all my pieces ready I decided to cut a frame using the largest frame from the Inside Scalloped Rectangle Dies.  I placed my grassy border behind the frame with Nuvo Glue and then adhered the frame to my background panel.  I then used the same glue to adhere my coloured images and secure the whole panel to an A2 white cardbase.

I used a sentiment from the Stars and Wishes stamp set and I stamped this in Onyx Black Versamark Ink.

I hope you enjoyed my card today and that it put a smile on your face!  Have a wonderful day!  xoxo

Creative Challenge - Let's Get Coloring!!

Hi Crafty Friends!  Thank you for joining me on my blog!  I'm sure you've been spoilt for choice with inspiration photos over on the CDD blog!
Today I'm sharing this card as part of the creative challenge using the new 'Llama Party' stamp set.

I love to colour and the two colouring mediums I gravitate towards are water colouring (colouring with distress inks or zig clean colour real brush markers) and alcohol markers (in my case it's copic markers).

I find that colouring with zig real brush markers are great if you want to colour something quickly...I find the process is a lot quicker and also easier to blend colours. Copic markers are my favourite to colour with although colouring generally takes a bit longer, but if you find colouring relaxing like me then its fine!

The Llama Party set is quite a large stamp so to colour all of the llamas is quite time intensive. On this card I have used copic markers
but have only blended and shaded the faces. On the body I have used little swirls in a variety of cool grey markers in 'C' shapes to give texture but to also colour them quickly.  All the products I have used to make this card are listed here**:

Copic Markers - C3, C1, C00, 0, R35, R39, V12, V15, YR04, YR02, RV04, RV02. Y13, Y11, G02, G00, B66, B63, BV01, BV00, RV10
Sakura Gelly Roll Pens - White, Black
Memento Tuexdo Black Ink (to stamp the image)
Glossy Accents

I hope you enjoyed my post today and look forward to sharing more projects with you soon!  If you would like to see a process video of me colouring and making the card pictured below just click here.

Until next time! xxx

CDD July 2018 Release Blog Hop

The July Release is now available for purchase! This collection of stamps, dies (and a stencil too!) is a great addition to your Summery cards or planner spreads. You’ll find lots of creative uses for the 6x6” swirl stencil - like a fun template for stitching! Once you’re done hopping and seeing all the inspiration the design team have created for you, head over to the Craftin Desert
Divas shop to snag your new release bundle - 10% off only through 7/15!

Llama Party

For this card I have stamped and coloured (with copics) the llamas from the Llama Party stamp set. I then used the fancy frames dies to cut one of the rectangles from white cardstock. I used a craft knife to cut out the a smaller rectangle to create a frame which I then lined with foam tape on the back. On my cardbase I took one of the sentiments from the set and stamped randomly all over the base using Hero Arts Ombre ink in Pool to Navy. I then trimmed my llamas down and positioned them to fit in the frame and secured to the base. I then secured the frame.

Fruity Friends
For this card I used the largest die from the fancy frames die  and stamped and coloured the small apple and strawberry all over the cardstock.  I used memento tuxedo black ink for all the stamping including the boy apple and girl strawberry.  I coloured all the images with my copic markers.

For the sentiment I cut out a circle from the stitched in circle dies and stamped out a sentiment.  To layer up the card on to the cardbase I cut a slightly smaller than A2 size rectangle in olive green card.

I absolutely adore this set and have already made more cards using it so I look forward to sharing those with you in the very near future!

CDD July Release 2018

There are lots of other fabulous stamp sets in the release plus a new stencil and a new set of dies so be sure to check out other Design Team members' blogs to see what they have created to tempt you!

Fruity Friends
For this card I have coloured (with copic markers) and fussy cut the cute cherry boy and girl image from the new fruity friends stamp set.

I then cut out the fence and grassy border from the Outdoor Landscape 2 dies and inked those up with vintage photo (fence) and peeled paint (grass) distress inks.  For the background scene piece I cut out a panel using the Fancy Frames dies and lightly inked up the top portion with tumbled glass distress ink and the bottom portion with peeled paint.  The clouds I used are from the Rainbow die set...I love the stitched swirl design of those!

To layer up the card I cut a base layer of pale blue cardstock from my stash and then die cut a black piece of card using the second largest of the dies from the Fancy Frames set.  Before I adhered all by scene elements I heat embossed the sentiment onto the inked background panel using Versafine onyx black ink and clear embossing powder.

Be sure to check back on my blog on Friday to see how I made the other cards using more of the stamps in the release!

Creative Challenge - Birthday Card Stash!

Hi everyone!  Today is my first post for Craftin Desert Divas and I'm super excited to share this set of super sweet cards I made this week!

I took some slightly textured watercolour cardstock and diecut four of the largest scalloped frames from the fancy frame die set.  I then scribbled on four colours of zig clean colour real brush markers, one colour on to each panel.  To blend the colour in I took a wet wide paint brush and moved the colour around until it covered the whole panel more evenly.  Finally I sprayed each panel with my mini mister and left to dry naturally.  To speed this up you could blast with your heat tool!

When I make cards in batches I find it easiest to do things in a conveyor belt style and do all the same tasks at the same time.  For example, I die cut the large rectangle frames and the vellum circles all at the same time.  The vellum circles were cut using the third largest die from the stitched in circle die set.

Once my watercoloured panels were completely dry I tapped on some watered down copic opaque white paint and Windsor and Newton ink in gold.  Once the splatters were dry I used my misti stamping tool and stamped one of the sentiments from the stars & wishes stamp set using my Versafine onyx black ink on to each panel.  I stamped each sentiment several times to get a good impression on the textured cardstock.  Whilst my misti and stamp set was still out I stamped my troll from the same stamp set on to copic friendly cardstock with memento tuxedo black ink.  If I'm really in a rush to get cards done I'll often use images I've already got coloured up!  I kept the colouring super simple and where possible the colours the same on each troll.  The only colours that are different on each one are the headbands and hair.  I've listed below all the colours I used.

Once all the colouring was done I fussy cut them all out and adhered them on to my vellum circles.  I ran the trolls through my xyron sticker maker for easiness and speed.  I used double sided tape on the back of the vellum circles and secured to my water colour panels.  Finally I used my ATG to apply lots of adhesive to the back of the watercolour panels as they were quite warped from the water I applied to them.  I then stuck them to my cardbases (which I had premade).

Here is a list of the items I used to create these cards:
Watercolour cardstock
Stars & Wishes stamp set
Fancy Frame dies
Stitched In Circle dies
Copic Opaque White
Gold Ink - Windsor & Newton
Mini Mister
Mini Misti Stamping Tool
Vellum
Scotch 3M Foam Tape
Double Sided Tape
Memento Ink - Tuxedo Black
Versafine Ink - Onyx Black
Copic Markers:
  • Trolls - C3, C1, C00, R20
  • Stars - Y17, YR31
  • Cloud - BG10, B01
  • Hair colours - RV02, RV10, Y06, Y11, BV02, BV00, BG13, BG11
Kuratake Real Brush Markers:
  • Pink - 025 (pink)
  • Yellow - 052 (bright yellow)
  • Green - 042 (turquoise green)
  • Purple - 080 (violet)

I hope you enjoyed these cards and my first post for CDD!  Look forward to bringing you more cute goodness!  Until next time xoxo
